Union Square

Rent Pilates & Treatment Space at Union Square — 41 Union Square West

The studio doesn't serve Union Square from a distance. It's on Union Square West at 17th Street, one flight up from the park, the Greenmarket and the busiest subway interchange south of 42nd Street.

The address

You're not walking to Union Square. You're already there.

41 Union Square West, Suite 501, sits on the west side of Union Square Park between 16th and 17th Streets, across from the Greenmarket that runs Monday, Wednesday, Friday and Saturday. Practitioners who rent here aren't commuting into the neighborhood — the building is a Union Square address in the way that matters to a client deciding whether a room is easy to find: it's on the park, not near it.

That distinction is worth making because a lot of studios that market themselves as "Union Square" are actually five or six blocks away on a side street. This one is on Union Square West, and Suite 501 means a short elevator ride, not a walk-up.

Getting here

Five subway lines converge at your front door.

14th Street–Union Square is the transfer point where the 4, 5 and 6 (Lexington Avenue local and express), the N, Q, R and W (Broadway line), and the L (14th Street crosstown) all meet. It's one of the few stations in Manhattan where a client from the Bronx, a client from deep Brooklyn on the L, and a client crossing from the West Side on the L can all get off within a minute of each other and be at street level in front of your building. There is no other neighborhood on this list with that density of direct service.

Practically, that means you can build a client list that draws from the whole city without anyone changing trains twice. A client in Williamsburg takes the L direct. A client on the Upper East Side takes the 6 direct. A client in Chelsea takes the L one stop or the F/M from 14th Street–Sixth Avenue and walks four minutes east. Union Square is the rare Manhattan address where "convenient for everyone" isn't marketing language — it's the map.

Who trains and treats here

Union Square draws the client who won't travel for anyone else.

The neighborhood mixes NYU and The New School students and staff, office workers from the towers along Park Avenue South and lower Fifth Avenue, residents of the co-ops and rentals ringing the park, and a steady flow of people simply passing through one of the city's biggest transit hubs on their way to or from work. For a massage therapist or esthetician, that's a client base that can book a lunchtime hour without leaving a fifteen-minute radius of their desk. For a Pilates instructor, it's a roster that can make a 7am reformer session before the subway gets crowded and still be at their office by 8:30.

It also suits practitioners whose own clients already live in Gramercy, the East Village, Chelsea or the Village and simply want one central room instead of asking those clients to choose a side. A Union Square address doesn't favor any single neighborhood around it — it's the compromise nobody has to compromise on.

Landmarks & context

The Greenmarket, the park, and the offices around it.

Union Square Park itself — with the Greenmarket, the dog run, the subway entrances and the steps where half the neighborhood eats lunch — is the anchor. Clients use it as a meeting point before or after a session, and it's genuinely faster to say "meet at the Union Square Greenmarket entrance" than to give cross streets.

Massage therapists, estheticians, Pilates and stretch instructors, personal trainers, acupuncturists and physical therapists all rent here for the same underlying reason: the room is booked by the hour, fully equipped, and the address does the work of getting clients to say yes to a first appointment.

Parking & biking

Come by train, on foot, or by Citi Bike.

There's no dedicated lot at the building — that's true of essentially every studio in this part of Manhattan, and any competitor claiming otherwise should be treated with suspicion. Commercial garages exist within a couple of blocks on 14th Street, 17th Street and Irving Place if a client insists on driving. Citi Bike docks sit directly around the park and along University Place and Broadway, which makes the last half-mile from the Village, Gramercy or NoMad genuinely quick for anyone already riding.

Frequently asked questions

Is the studio actually in Union Square, or just nearby?

It's in Union Square. 41 Union Square West, Suite 501 sits directly on the west side of the park at 17th Street — you can see the Greenmarket tents from the block. This isn't a "Union Square area" listing that's really ten blocks off; the address is the park.

Which subway stop do I tell clients to use?

14th Street–Union Square. It's the single busiest interchange downtown: the 4/5/6, the N/Q/R/W and the L all stop there, which means clients coming from the Bronx, Brooklyn, the East Side, the West Side or New Jersey PATH transfers at 14th and 6th Ave can reach you without a second train.

Is there parking near Union Square West?

Not dedicated studio parking — this is Manhattan, and nobody advertising a room near Union Square honestly has a private lot. There are commercial garages on 14th, 17th and Irving Place within a couple of blocks, and metered street spots are scarce and time-limited. Most practitioners and their clients arrive by subway, on foot, or by Citi Bike.

Is Citi Bike a realistic way to get here?

Yes. There are Citi Bike docks directly around Union Square Park and along University Place and Broadway. If you already have a membership and you're coming from the Village, Gramercy or the East Village, it's often faster door-to-door than the subway for a trip this short.
