Greenwich Village

Studio & Treatment Room Rental for Greenwich Village Practitioners

Twelve minutes north on University Place, from Washington Square Park to Union Square West.

The walk

University Place, start to finish.

Washington Square Park and its arch mark the heart of Greenwich Village, ringed by NYU buildings and townhouses running west toward Sixth Avenue and south toward Houston Street. The walk north to the studio is close to a straight line: University Place runs directly from the park's northeast corner up to 14th Street, where a one-block turn east lands you at Union Square West. It's about twelve minutes, almost entirely on one avenue, with none of the diagonal or angled blocks that make other parts of the Village harder to navigate by landmark alone.

For clients who already treat Washington Square Park as their neighborhood's front door, that makes Union Square feel like the next block over rather than a separate destination.

Transit

8th Street–NYU and Astor Place, both one stop out.

The N, Q, R and W trains stop at 8th Street–NYU, a couple of blocks from Washington Square Park, and reach 14th Street–Union Square in one stop. The 6 train's Astor Place station, on the Village's eastern edge near Broadway and Lafayette, is likewise one stop from Union Square. Most Village-based clients skip the train for this particular trip since the walk up University Place takes about the same time as getting to a platform and waiting.

Who this suits

NYU-adjacent clients and Village residents who already walk everywhere.

Greenwich Village mixes NYU faculty, staff and graduate students with longtime residents in the townhouses and prewar buildings south of Union Square, plus a steady population that works in publishing, law and finance further downtown but lives in the Village for its scale and quiet. That's a good match for Pilates instructors and personal trainers whose clients are used to walking a mile or more without thinking about it, and for acupuncturists or physical therapists whose Village clients want a practitioner they can reach on foot without needing a car or a long subway ride.

Parking & biking

Citi Bike shortens University Place further.

Parking in the Village is scarce and largely metered or permitted, so it's not a realistic option for a regular appointment. Citi Bike docks sit right at Washington Square Park and at several points along University Place, which turns the twelve-minute walk into a five-minute ride for anyone who already has a membership.

Frequently asked questions

How far is the studio from Washington Square Park?

About a 12-minute walk. From the arch, head north on University Place — a straight, mostly flat shot — to 14th Street, then east a block to Union Square West.

Which subway connects Greenwich Village to Union Square?

The N/R/W at 8th Street–NYU is the closest express-adjacent option and reaches 14th Street–Union Square in one stop. The 6 at Astor Place, on the Village's eastern edge, is also one stop away.

Is University Place a safe, direct walking route at night?

It's a straightforward, well-lit commercial avenue the whole way — cafes, NYU buildings and storefronts rather than a quiet residential stretch, which is part of why practitioners recommend it over cutting through smaller Village side streets after dark.
